Ideal for the manufacturing of large structures, a fit up bed and growing line system offer manipulation of large components during the assembly process.

This specialised equipment is utilised in welding and fabrication processes, particularly in wind tower production and offshore & vessel manufacturers.

With individual motorised adjustment of each axis under load, sections can be manipulated left, right, up and down (x, y and Z axes) to join components together. By adding numerous sections, the transition unit grows and extends the pipe, continually passing it down the line.

How Does a Fit Up Bed and Growing Line System Work?

A fit up bed and growing line system provides an innovative solution for manufacturing large structures in offshore and wind tower production.

  1. Component preparation: Individual sections of the structure are fabricated separately and brought to the fit-up bed area for assembly.
  2. Alignment and fit-up: Now ready for assembly, each component is then placed on the adjustable tables or platforms of the fit-up bed. Tables can be adjusted to the desired height and angle required to facilitate property alignment and fit-up of the components. Welding operators utilise measuring tools and alignment techniques to ensure precise alignment of each component before welding begins.
  3. Growing line assembly: As each component is correctly aligned and welded in place, the structure gradually grows along the length of the fit-up bed. Additional components are then added sequentially, with the growing line system allowing for continuous assembly without disruption.
  4. Quality control: Throughout the assembly process, quality control checks are performed to ensure the accuracy of the fit-up and weld quality. Any discrepancies or defects are addressed promptly to maintain the structure’s integrity.
